Chambers Manager 

Leading Barrister’s Chambers (London) 

Our client is a Leading set of Barristers’ Chambers, specialising in Family and Child Law. Chambers is acknowledged by the legal directories for “excellence”, “leaders in the field” and for its highly personable and dynamic people. Chambers now seeks to appoint a highly suitable individual to the role of “Chambers Manager”. 

Reporting directly to the Head of Chambers, the successful applicant will work in partnership with the Practice Director, and the Senior Practice Manager to ensure the continued smooth running of the business. They will maintain and develop the efficient, effective and economic administration of Chambers and will have lead responsibility for all administrative functions within Chambers including, regulatory and compliance (including GDPR, E&D and BSB), facilities management, HR, IT, and finance, marketing support (with outsourced assistance) as well as assisting with the organisation of Chambers’ meetings and meetings of Chambers’ Committees. 

This is a very busy and “hands on” position, which forms an integral part in the on-going development and success of Chambers. 

The Role (includes); 

Facilities Management: Maintenance of appearance and functionality of all offices; manage building security; procurement of office equipment; all health and safety matters; manage any refurbishment and repairs required. 

Administration: Ensuring staff and members handbooks are up-to-date and fully compliant; ensure maintenance of Chambers’ insurance policies and certificates are current; ensure Bar Mutual and Data Protection cover is adequate and up-to-date; organise and attend at Chambers and Management Committee Meetings, as required. 

Human Resources: Provide HR advice to the Head of Chambers and Practice Director; maintain and develop compliant HR records, policies, handbooks; maintain and administer all staff records including recruitment, policies and procedures, job descriptions and holiday records; ensure compliance with all relevant legislation. 

Finance: Liaising with the HoC and Senior Management in relation to finance functions; Management of income and expenditure; cost effective financial management; management of budgets. 

Others: Responsible for management of Chambers’ IT contractors; Regulation - ensuring Chambers is compliant with all regulatory requirements including GDPR; line management of contracted administration staff; equality and diversity – active pursuit of the principles of equal opportunity/diversity in all aspects of the role; marketing - supporting Chambers’ marketing initiatives. 

The Person will: 

  • Be educated to degree level or hold an equivalent vocational qualification in business, accountancy or other relevant field; or be able to demonstrate relevant equivalent experience.
  • Possess demonstrable experience of no less than 10 years, working and managing successfully in a legal, professional services or similar environment with experience relevant to the functions required.
  • Have been responsible for the management of staff and budgets up to £500k.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with and influence others effectively at all levels within Chambers and with outside organisations.
  • Possess a track record of effective leadership and delivery.
  • Be innovative and able to plan and implement change within an organisation. 

The role is offered with highly competitive salary, commensurate with the seniority of the position.
